henna is small enough that most problems have one of a handful of causes. If none of these is yours, mail tech@openxel.com — include what you did, what happened, and which provider and model you have selected.

Common problems

Nothing happens when I press the shortcut

Three usual causes. Too little selected — henna needs a reasonable amount of text and stays quiet below it, so it never interrupts an ordinary click. A shortcut collision — another extension or Chrome itself may have claimed it; check and rebind at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. A page extensions may not touch — Chrome blocks all extensions on chrome:// pages, the Web Store, and some PDF viewers.

“Add your API key to start”

No key is saved for the provider you have selected. Open settings — right-click the henna icon and choose Options — and paste one. The page links to where each provider issues keys.

“That API key was rejected”

The key is wrong, revoked, or belongs to a different provider than the one selected. Keys are stored per provider, so check the dropdown matches the key you pasted.

“The provider's rate limit was reached”

You have hit your provider's quota. Free tiers are limited per model per day, so a short session of testing can exhaust one. Open the details in the panel to see exactly what the provider said — it is their message, not ours. Switching model in settings uses a different quota; adding billing to your provider account lifts the limit.

“The provider rejected the request”

Usually a model name that provider does not recognise. Clear the model field to fall back to the default, or pick one from the suggestions.

The draft has [date] or [amount] in it

Working as intended. henna will not invent a fact it cannot know, so it leaves a placeholder for you to fill in. If you know the value, put it in the panel's instruction field — we can start March 3rd — and redraft; facts you supply are used as written.

“Extension context invalidated” in the page console

You reloaded or updated the extension while tabs were open. henna detects this and replaces itself, so the shortcut should work again without refreshing. If it does not, reload the page once.

The ✦ button does not appear

It is off by default, because it is the one feature that needs access to every site. Switch it on in settings and grant the access when Chrome asks. The keyboard shortcut and right-click menu work without it.

Reporting something worse

If henna produces a draft that acts on instructions contained in the email rather than replying to it, we want to know immediately. Mail tech@openxel.com with the message that caused it. That class of bug is treated as blocking.

Privacy questions

The privacy policy says what is handled and what is not. Short version: your text goes to the one provider you configured and nowhere else, and there is no henna server to collect anything.
